Project Description

A TIMELESS FAMILY SPACE

Client: Alison Shaw, who lives in a Georgian style new-build in Limerick City with her husband and son

Brief: To create a timeless and luxurious space that embraced quality over trends

Alison first approached Creative Director Geri O’Toole Glynn about the interior design of her new home as, as a busy working mum, decorating to a good standard was a task that she just didn’t have time for.

“Alison really wanted great interior design for new family home,” says Geri. “But she just didn’t have the time to dedicate to it that it deserved. So I ensured throughout the project that she was consulted and informed at every stage so that ultimately it would feel like her home, and not just a show home.”

Alison wanted to create a timeless design that also looked fresh and modern to embrace the open plan space that dominated the downstairs living area. Luxury was key to this project so Geri began by choosing a neutral colour palette of warm greys and creams that complemented the deeper hues of the existing timber flooring.

“Greys are a tricky shade to work with,” says Geri.  “Greys are rarely monochrome, there is always a slight colour that will pull it into a more yellow, blue or lilac hue, for example. I find greys with more cream undertones are the easiest to work with as they warm up a space rather than making it cold as many greys can do.”

For this project Geri opted for subtle mushroom grey and mauve grey shades that allowed for the introduction of punchier accent colours, such as the purple scatter cushions and rich latte shade of the TV unit.

“The TV unit was definitely the most exciting stage of this room design,” Geri recalls. “It was handmade in France to our own specification – including the colour – and when it arrived it absolutely transformed the space. Alison was in awe!”

The sofa is one of Geri’s own designs from the Bespoke by Browsers range. It is upholstered in a hardwearing linen fabric, and handmade in Ireland using a solid beech frame with a luxury packing of feather, foam and fibre, to give the most comfort and longevity. The rug was also a custom order from Alternative Flooring, a favourite of Geri’s that offers custom sizes and trims, allowing for limitless flooring options. All the lighting was chosen from the large range on offer at the Browsers showroom, including the Neptune Browning pendant.

Finally Geri helped bring the space to life with an abundance of framed prints, faux flowers, handpicked accessories and expert styling.

“One of Alison’s favourite pieces was the commissioned print by our very own Design Assistant Helena Grimes, which hangs pride of place over the fire. I often commission original art from all over Ireland, but on this occasion we were lucky to have the right artist right on our doorstep.”

Of the finished space, Alison couldn’t be happier.

“Alison and her family love relaxing in this living space now, especially when the fire is on,” says Geri. “It’s not just pretty space, but a functioning, much used room that this family can enjoy together for many years to come.”
