Project Description

A SOPHISTICATED NEW BUILD – PART 3

Client:  Fiona and Martin Shaw

House: A new build detached home in the Limerick suburbs

Brief:  Fiona and Martin wanted a finished home ready to move into, full of light and a refined elegance. Being busy professionals, they were both open to any scheme as long as it created a crisp, contemporary and comfortable finish that they could live in into retirement.

Having completed the kitchen and living areas, Geri wanted to ensure the theme was continue throughout, while still ensuring each space was practical in its nature.

The hallway is the most used space in the house and can often be the most neglected. Fortunately Fiona and Martin had a room elsewhere that dealt with the collection of shoes, coats and other paraphernalia that halls can collect, so instead of the closed under-stairs cupboard initially planned, Geri was able to keep it open. She decorated it with a slim line Neptune Edinburgh console table, embellished with a Neptune table lamp and storage basket.

The floor is a continuation of the open plan kitchen space eliminating the need for door saddles and creating a better flow throughout. Due to the limited space within the hallway, furniture had to be kept to a minimum, so to create a feeling of luxury Geri added half panelling and a radiator cover to the walls, even running up the stairs. The woodwork, including the banisters, were painted in True Taupe by Little Greene Paints chosen for its similarity to the floor colour.

The stairs are carpeted in a neutral, but subtly textured herringbone sisal and the walls hung with two prints from the Neptune Clipsham series. Further accessories soften the space, such as the faux foliage and mohair throw.

Upstairs, the bedroom was kept simple due to an ensuite and walk in wardrobe keeping tasks in this room to a minimum. A luxurious bed from Neptune, featuring the Charles headboard in Spelt heavy weight linen with a matching base, takes pride of place. It is complemented by simple bed linen and bespoke throw pillows using designer fabrics from Mark Alexander and a knitted throw, also from Neptune.

The bespoke tailoring continues on the curtains, with a warm white linen featuring a deep velvet trim by Zoffany.

The Alternative Flooring Ashtanga carpet further adds to this luxurious space as it is features both wool and silk, giving a sumptuous feel underfoot and a subtle shimmer in the daylight.

One either side of the bed are small, yet elegant glazed side tables from the Browsers collection. The wall lights, chosen to keep the side tables clear, and the simple bubble glass pendant are also from the Browsers collection, while the Weathered Stone wallpaper is by Zoffany.

Overall, Geri has achieved a home that is the definition of relaxed sophistication: subtle textures and tones throughout ensure that the finish in this house creates a luxurious atmosphere. Needless to say Fiona and Martin were delighted with the outcome, and can now enjoy their home for many more years to come.
