Project Description

A SOPHISTICATED NEW BUILD – PART 2

Client:  Fiona and Martin Shaw

House: A new build detached home in the Limerick suburbs

Having created a crisp and elegant kitchen/dining/sunroom space Geri wanted to continue the theme into the living room, while also adding another level of sumptuousness appropriate to a room designed for relaxing in.

Continues below.

To add some warmth and texture to the living space, bubble weave sisal from Alternative Flooring was used on the floor. Next the walls were painted in Little Greene’s French Grey with Shirting on the architraves, paired with another textured Thibaut wallpaper in Raffia Weave.

To keep clutter to a minimum, Geri added contemporary in-built shelving to the left of the fireplace. She kept the design streamlined and simple by adding flat panel doors and pull out handles, and painting it the same shade as the walls.

The bold Swedish designed 4-seater sofa is upholstered in rich blue velvet, and complemented by a selection of custom made cushions in varying tones and textures. The Browsers’ buttoned armchairs lend a contemporary air with their lack of corner seams and low base. The modern coffee table is from the Browsers collection.

The lighting throughout these rooms were kept simple bar the striking opaque crystal chandelier in the living room, chosen to add a little extra luxury to this sumptuous space. Geri was struck by the drama created when it was turned on: the light is diffused by the opaque glass pendants creating a subtle yet striking source of light. The wall lights are again from Neptune, this time the Keats light, with its distinctive conical shade in spun steel and double hinge arm.

Next, Geri had to design the small hallway, no simple task for such a heavy use space.
